INTO THE SHADOW

We hear more and more about how shadow work is foundational to our own healing. We can only get so far in our growth if we do not engage with our shadow. It is in the difficult parts of our lives that we uncover the most of what made us who we are, but so much easier to let our successes hold us up. When that isn’t enough anymore, it is by and through the shadow that we find what we need; by making friends with it and agreeing to work together so we may find peace and fulfilment for ourselves.

I love incorporating all aspects of the self in my paintings, by letting the heaviness of a work stand. They are as life is for all of us at times, and we need to be reminded that we have what we need; within, we are strong and resilient and have navigated many challenges before.

These are explorations of the shadow. The characters that come together in the process insist on showing up as they are; either consumed with emotion they show on their faces, or as hardened tired souls, weariness plain to see and feel. Looking at it from the outside in, as the artist or the viewer of it, it becomes more like a scene in a play, to exchange and interact with. The drama plays out but the artist is never left without a stroke if the narrative doesn’t feel

right. The conversation continues until all has been said.
